We knew that Lora from Bon Appetit travels the world and makes great YouTube videos. Lora Travels is the coolest Bulgarian travel channel, and we absolutely love it. What we didn’t expect was for her to think of us on the island of Madagascar, one of the most exotic places on Earth.
We’re sharing the latest episode from her Madagascar series, where she encounters one of the most peculiar and unique spices on Earth – Voatsiperifery pepper. This plant belongs to the cubeb family and is an transitory species between cubeb and black pepper. Due to its long and complex name, even locals struggle to remember it, which is why it’s also known as Wild Pepper (Poivre sauvage), Bourbon pepper, Jungle pepper, and many others.
Lora was so impressed by her discovery that she even forgot which pepper she got from us during our last meeting at the Bacchus Fish Fest. She bought Cambodian Black Kampot pepper, not Vietnamese pepper. We understand her, everyone is shocked by their first encounter with Voatsiperifery, and so were we. It’s only harvested wild and in extremely small quantities. Its unique taste and aroma, a combination of warm exotic citrus and sweet-astringent notes, are truly hard to describe. Lora had her doubts about us and she’s partially right – we don’t always have Voatsiperifery in stock, but when it’s in season, we source it by order. After all, we’re the best!
We wish Lora to visit all the places where spices grow, i.e the whole world, to film them, and remember us from time to time.
Wild pepper (Voatsiperifery) is one of the 6 black pepper in our Premium pack black pepper.
